Monthly Goal Meetup - July

Goals

This is my first time participating in Modish Biz Tips' Monthly Goal Meetup!  Hello to all those who have visited through Jena's blog!  :)

1. Sketch basic necklace designs.
2. Order in new gemstones according to designs.
3. Finish editing shop.
4. Add 'About' page to blog.

These goals should be easy to complete and these are the last few things I have to do before I can start promoting my website/blog.  Good luck to everyone else!  :)

Rockabye

I've been reading Rockabye: From Wild to Child by Rebecca Wolfe these last few days and it's really got me thinking about how much my life has changed since I had Millie.

I had just turned 22 when I became pregnant and I really appreciate the honesty in her first chapter (aptly entitled "Holy s*** I'm pregnant"!).  Daniel and I were living in New Delhi at the time.  Our "flat" was horrible, a single room that measured 8ft by 10 ft a shared toilet (a hole in the ground) and a kitchen that fit one person at a time.  Nightmare!

Shortly after seeing those double pink lines, I had to leave for the UK because my constant ill health was not safe for the baby.  That meant moving in with my parents and waiting for Daniel to get a visa.

When I look back on that time I realized how spoilt I was, how immature.  I knew there was a little person growing inside of me but I was more concerned about my circumstances at the time.

Quite a heavy post for Monday morning... sorry about that folks!  Hope you had a good weekend. ;)

A Day to Remember

As this is my first post and I don't really have any followers yet I'd like to introduce myself to everyone out there...

My name is Ruthie, I'm 24 years old and I love to make jewelry!  I've been crafting jewelry since I was 13 years old after meeting a girl in France who made lovely, beaded friendship bracelets.  As the years went by, I moved on to sterling silver and then gold.  Last summer, I attended the Edinburgh College of Art Summer School where I took a course in jewelry design.

On a more personal note, I live in Scotland with my husband, Daniel, and my one-year-old daughter, Millie.  Daniel is from India and belongs to a small tribe called Haokip (our surname is also Haokip, hence the name of the shop and website, etc... This is where my asian influence comes from!).  Daniel and I want to settle in India eventually but for now we are in the UK.

Besides crafting jewelry, I like to watch films, listen to music, cook for my family, grow indoor plants and herbs, practice yoga and play with Millie.

I hope that you enjoy my blog and I'll see you around!  :)
